Mark  > Baby Luke > Baby Luke
Hi all. Meet our miracle baby Luke. Born 6 months and 1 week in, due to pregnancy complications. Born 6/20/07 at 1 lb & 7 oz - 12 inches long. Went home on 10/2/07 at 5 lbs & 8 oz - 17 inches long. Thanks to the grace of God, prayers from believers in God O Mighty & the skills of doctors and nurses, he survived birth [with cord in two knots and wrapped around neck three times], beat Chronic Lung Disease & Retinopathy of Prematurity (eye disease]. Had 3 operations, liver failure & recovery [no known cause] and a long 3 ½ month stay in two different hospitals. Today, Luke is doing great!!

Mark > 9/8/07. Well everything was going great, Luke was doing well and he was leaving the hospital in two days. Then bad news hit, his liver failed. The diagnoses, may need liver transplant if they can find one. If that had been the case, he would have three months to live if they didn't find a donor. But we wouldn’t know for sure until after the liver biopsy. Notice the yellow tint on his skin, which is due to his liver failure. This liver failure also prolonged his stay in the hospital for two more weeks.
Mark > 9/8/07. There were a few things that baffled the doctors on his liver failure. 1 - They're not sure why it happened or why his liver started to get better. 2 - Why when he had liver failure he continued to eat and gain weight. He had his biopsy a few days later and the findings were if there was something wrong with his liver, it fixed itself. Took us two months after the surgery to get the test report. Before the surgery, he was getting his color back and his liver levels were dropping back to normal. They performed the biopsy anyway just to make sure everything was OK.
Mark > 9/8/07. A family shot of all of us while we wait for Luke's third surgery. Yes that's me on the right.
Mark > 9/16/07. Regardless the outcome of the biopsy, Luke was going home. So we had to make sure he fit in his car seat. Just barely!!
Mark > 9/21/07. Jake wanted to feed baby Luke. Made us nervous, but he did a great job.
Mark > 9/22/07. Luke trying to get away from momma kisses.
Mark > 9/22/07. Hard to believe Luke looking this good after three months of worrying. But Luke is finally ready to come home. Just a few more days of recovering from his last surgery and he will be on his way home.
Mark > 10/02/07. Big day, Luke is coming home. Notice the tape on his stomach; the tape is covering up his 2-inch biopsy scar.
Mark > 10/02/07. He's ready to go.
